The Northern Zone includes political regions (I, II, III, IV) of Tarapaca, Antofagasta, Atacama and Coquimbo respectively.
The regions of Tarapaca and Antofagasta are areas where aridity and dryness of the Atacama Desert is in contrast with the fertile valleys and oases.
It is an area of great archaeological treasures, natural and cultural.
Each of the cities and towns in the region, is the heir of the past.
There are many villages like San Pedro de Atacama and Putre that are surrounded by kilometers of endless deserts; the shape and pace of life differ greatly from that of the cities located along the coast.
