· DESCRIPTION
The Bellavista neighborhood is an area of the city of Santiago, located between the north bank of the river Mapocho and Cerro San Cristobal, with Pio Nono street as the backbone. In the beginning was a Catholic and aristocratic area, while today popular bars coexist with cultural centers and international cuisine.
This neighborhood is divided between the municipalities and communes of “Providencia” (east) and “Recoleta” (west), separated by “Pio Nono” Street.
Its development began in the colonial era, the sector was known as the barrio of “La Chimba” poor families living on the slopes of Cerro San Cristobal.
With the construction of the Bridge “Cal y Canto” on the early nineteenth century the sectors get together and start an urban development.
Bellavista can be reached by Santiago Metro, Station “Baquedano”. Cross the bridge Pio Nono, this crosses the Mapocho River, heading north. It’s possible to see at the northeastern shore the building of the Faculty of Law of Universidad de Chile. Following is reached Pio Nono street crossing from south to north, the Bellavista neighborhood, dividing it into two sections: east and west. Pio Nono street itself concentrates many popular bars. The eastern sector concentrates on its quality restaurants on the streets Dardignac and Constitución

From Metro Salvador head northeast toward Av Av Providencia in Eliodoro Yanez and turn left, continue by Archbishop Mariano Casanova Bridge, turn left at Av Santa Maria
· TRANSPORT
It exist diferent ways of public transportation, subway, city buses and taxis.
· ACTIVITIES
HOME "The Chascona” OF PABLO NERUDA
This house, built in 1953, was the third property of the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda and the only one who was in Santiago. Close to Cerro San Cristobal, have three floors. In the past Pablo Neruda lived in La Chascona with his last wife, Matilde Urrutia. Today it´s a museum, you may visit daily except Monday.


GASTRONOMY
In the eastern sector of the Barrio Bellavista, in the Constitucion street, between Dardignac and Antonia Lopez de Bello, you can find gourmet cuisine restaurants that offer a varied of alternatives. Also around the corner with Dardignac Mallinkrodt.


NIGHTLIFE
Pubs, clubs and restaurants, are expecting the tourist to enjoy its charm, fun, live music and delicious food.


FUNICULAR AND ACCESS TO THE METROPOLITAN PARK
At the end of Pio Nono is the funicular that reaches almost to the summit of Cerro San Cristobal, from there you can follow the journey on foot to reach the statue of Virgin Mary. The Metropolitan Park of Santiago is composed of all the Cerro San Cristobal and its adjacent land. Within its facilities, located a recreational center, a nursery, forest and much visited a zoo.
