Puerto Varas is a city located in the Llanquihue Province in Region X of Los Lagos, on the shores of Lake Llanquihue. It has about 32,000 inhabitants and is situated at 70 meters above sea level.
The city was formed from the German colonization with immigrants who settled here around 1852 and 1853. The city has always been renowned for its relation to tourism, offering beautiful natural scenery, good food, beaches, parks, fishing, proximity to hot spring resorts and sports activities. |

Puerto Varas is located 20 km from the city of Puerto Montt to the north along the Panamerican Highway at this point you ll go to Puerto Varas on the shore of Lake Llanquihue. It is located 1,005 km south of Santiago.

There are various places to visit in Puerto Varas, we recommend the Church of the “Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, built in oak in 1915.
Taking a walk along the waterfront on the shore of Lake Llanquihue with a spectacular view of Osorno volcano and Calbuco you can visit the area of Puerto Chico, at the end of Avenida Costanera, you will found in the area large concentration of hotels, restaurants which can also be seen in the downtown, with different choices of restaurants, pubs, Restobar or Puerto Varas Casino which are just steps from the plaza. Near this place is also possible to find shops and operators where you can hire fishing excursions, walks around the lake or visit attractions in nearby towns.
Some Houses of Puerto Varas declared a National Monument; there are 8 houses, located in different parts of the city built of wood between 1910 and 1930.
Finally it is important to note that different sports can be practiced mostly in the summer, such as: Climbing, skiing, fly fishing in the River Petrohué, golf, water sports, kayaking, rafting, horseback riding and canopying. There is also hunting for deer.
