· DESCRIPTION
|
Puerto Montt, capital of “Region de los Lagos” (Region X) sited opposite Reloncaví; has a sheltered bay on the west side of the island of Tenglo. Founded on 12 February 1853 by Don Vicente Perez Rosales, in the locality of Astilleros de Melipulli (Meli: Four, Pulli: Hills). Its present name was given in honor of the president at the time, Don Manuel Montt. The people who inhabited this area were mainly the exploitation of Larch.
According to the pre census in 2001, currently has approximately 175,000 inhabitants. Puerto Montt, the capital of the “Decima Region de los Lagos” Tenth Region of the Lakes is a link to parts of the General Carlos Ibáñez del Campo (Region XI) and Magallanes (Region XII). For its strategic location, this city is the starting point for the shift to tourist attractions in the south in general, and is also a seaport with the southernmost regions, and its international airport "El Tepual" with the main terminals air of the country. |

There are various activities which can be in the city of Pto Montt also being a place that serves as a platform for various walks a few kilometers.

ANGELMÓ
Located 2 kilometers west of the Plaza de Armas. It is a traditional market where you can find different works in basketry, wood, leather, shells and metals. It s also seafood market. Numerous boats arrive at this place bringing villagers from different villages near Puerto Montt, to sell their products.
In the nearby eatery can enjoy typical dishes like "curantos” and “cancatos” (different ways to prepare seafood and meat in one casserole. There are also stalls selling honey, cheese, butter, wild fruit syrups, dried and fresh seafood etc.
MUNICIPAL MARKET IBANEZ
Comprises 159 stores, in a building of two levels. Ample parking, playground, spectacular lookout over the bay and downtown. Its Open from 07 to 20:00 hrs. There are Security personnel, municipal inspectors and its own Local Government.
Among the items available to the campus include fruit shops, grocery stores, groceries, dairy products (cheese and butter), fish, flower shop, dry sea products, fast food, homemade jams, honey, confectionery, ice cream, gifts , butcher, frozen seafood products, handicrafts, clay-plaster wool-leather, wood crafts, indoor plants and shrubs, herbal medicines, footwear, hardware, plastic containers, eggs, stationery, accessories phones, toys, call center and restaurants.
There are daily income of traders from rural areas who form an open-air market of food products from the ground and sea, and there is a circular patio specially authorized for that purpose.
COAST ROAD PELLUCO
At 4 km. from Puerto Montt is located Pelluco, the meaning in Mapuche language (pellu = mussel, co = water).
Is a residential area that offers food services, accommodation and clubs.
Here lies also the chapel of "Santa Cruz", which was built early this century and rebuilt in 1985, with materials that resemble architectural trefoil.
You can access this little town through buses or taxis that leave from the Former Railway Station.
