· DESCRIPTION
|
Futaleufú is located in the X Region of Los Lagos, Province of Palena. Since March 2009 it is the capital of the province of Palena.
The township is named after its main river (the Rio Futaleufú) than in the indigenous language Mapudungun means Big River.
This River is known worldwide as one of the most spectacular rapids of the world, combining the violence of the Colorado River, the turquoise of the Caribbean waters and temperate forest landscapes in the United States and Canada.
Their main economic activities are livestock, forest products. The tourism has been identified as the main hub for future development due to the variety of natural attractions.
The river which lends its name to the community and is recognized by experts as one of the best in the world to practice rafting and kayaking.
The township has several lakes such as “El Espolón”, “Lonconao”, “Noroeste”, “Las Rosas” and “La Laguna Espejo” who are bordering the urban sector.
Futaleufú is divided 6 rural Sectors named; “El Azul”, “Espolón”, “Lonconao”, “Noroeste”, “Río Chico” and “Las Escalas”.
The Futaleufú River, classed as a river, growing by lakes Amerces National Park in the province of Chubut, Argentina, crosses the Andes to Chile and flowing into the lake Yelcho. The Futaleufú is known for its deep blue waters of melting glaciers. |

| Futaleufú is located in the X region of “Los Lagos”, in the Province of Palena, on the northern tip of Chilean Patagonia, 156 km from the town of Chaitén. |
| · TRANSPORT |
To reach Futaleufú there are different Transport:
• From Puerto Mont to Chaitén by ferry (10 hrs) and from Chaitén to Futaleufú by land (3 hours).
•Going throw Osorno by land, cross into Argentina by Cardinal Samore path and keep into the north until Traveling. |

There are various activities such as rafting on the famous Futaleufú River, fishing, floating, and horse riding, walking and hiking among several others.
LONCONAO AND ESPOLON LAKES
They are just 10 Kilometers from Futaleufú and only 2 kilometers separates them from each other. Fishing charters are available and horses for hire.
VISIT TREVELIN AND ESQUEL IN ARGENTINA
At only 46 kilometers across the Rio Futaleufú you can reach Trevelín a Welsh settlement where you can access the beautiful Parque Nacional Los Alerces. Continue the course for about 20 km to get to Esquel. |
