· DESCRIPTION

Frutillar is a municipality; city and lake resort located in southern Chile, on the western shore of Lake Llanquihue, X Región de Los Lagos. Known for its beautiful landscape, German traditions that have remained since the time of its founders also Frutillar Musical Weeks, a distinguished event which takes place each summer in which classical music is interpreted in natural surroundings, literally on the lake.
Founded on 23 November 1856 by German settlers arrived in the area during the administration of President Manuel Montt on the shores of Lake Llanquihue. The settlers built their homes in the surrounding hills, because of the swampy land near the lake, and entirely devoted to farming and Agriculture Company, as the operation of dairy farms, mills, distilleries and some stores dedicated to the sale of food and implements.
As a result of the colonization process then incorporated the German customs and traditions that people brought from their homelands. The town had a rapid development because was a forced passage between Puerto Montt and Osorno, promoting the formation of trade and agriculture company. |

Frutillar with his beautiful landscape of Lake Llanquihue and the Osorno Volcano in the background, offers lots of possibilities. The German Colonial Museum with the aim of recreating the settlements of the early settlers. There are different stores around where you can find variety of crafts both German and Southern. You can also enjoy the natural beauty of its surroundings on the low roads (going north) or Punta Larga (south), or even round the lake. The lake also offers the possibility to practice water sports such as sailing. Another option is Frutillar Musical Weeks, held every year from 27 January to 5 February.
EDMUND FOREST PARK WINKLER
The forestry center of the University of Chile stretches over an area of 33 hectares and has wonderful trails. The main trail has a length of 800 meters and can be traversed in 40 minutes. In it you can see a lot of native forest species and plants for sale.
WALKS IN THE COSTANERA
Just a nice walk along the waterfront is well worth it scene in this beautiful city which stands out with a really spectacular view to the volcanoes (Osorno, Calbuco, Tronador and Puntiagudo while you walk along the lake.
GERMAN COLONIAL MUSEUM
The Frutillar German Colonial Museum was opened in 1984 and is the work of cooperation between the Municipality of Frutillar, the local community, the Austral University of Chile and the German Government. Its facilities in a beautiful park recreate life in the area of Lake Llanquihue.
It exhibits the historical background of the colonization process of Llanquihue, and the characteristics of the archaeological and Hispanic occupation of the region.
LAKE THEATER
"Teatro del Lago", one of the most important cultural art centers and most notable in the world. It is a reference of multidisciplinary artistic expressions in a beautiful natural environment. |
